Wood finishes – Lacquering, Waxing and Oiling
Lacquering
For everyday furniture it is advisable to apply a hard wearing lacquer. It is a popular choice with many of our customers. We start by stripping the wood, re-staining the piece and finally sealing it with a hardwearing lacquer thus protecting the table for many years to come.
Lacquer, the most durable of all finishes is available in high gloss, satin finish or matt finish.

Waxing
Wood finishing starts with sanding, usually by hand. We then apply a few coats of wax. The wax gives a dull but even sheen to the wood. Wax is commonly applied to pine.
Oiling
An oil finish is designed to protect wood and bring out its attractive natural sheen. Furniture that is to be finished with oil must be sanded down to the grain to even out pores thus creating a smooth finish. An oil finish must be applied periodically.
French Polishing
French polishing is a wood finish technique that results in a very high gloss mirror like finish. It consists of many this coats of shellac dissolved using a rubbing pad lubricated with oil.
